The School Management Committee, often abbreviated to SMC, is a structure mandated for every government or govt-aided school by the 2009 Right to Education Act. It is visualized as a basic unit of a decentralized model of governance actively involving members of the larger community. Typically, an SMC consists of members from both within and outside the school who work together to improve the school in various capacities.
Since 2015, Samarthya, an organization based in Delhi has been actively involving members of the committee across various to reimagine education for every child. A part of Mantra4Change’s incubation programme – EduMentum, the organization’s work is now documented as a case study.
